About Script.re
Script.re is a free, Scripture-first Bible study app that reveals the original Hebrew and Greek behind every word, providing powerful study tools to more languages so people everywhere can encounter the truth of Scripture.
Script.re uses the Textus Receptus for the Greek and the Ben Chayyim Masoretic text for the Hebrew. This provides a reliable textual foundation you can trust. Each translation is aligned word for word to the Hebrew and Greek, which enables rich study tools that have only existed in English to become available in potentially many languages.
We hold the sixty-six books of the Protestant canon as the completed Word of God. Revealing the truth of the Scriptures clearly will allow anyone from any background to encounter the truth. Script.re is free and always will be. It is our hope to deliver rich study tools and features that compete with paid software and make them available around the world without restriction.
What Makes Script.re Different
Scripture First
Many Bible apps prioritize features like devotionals, reading plans, and social features. These apps are valuable, and among them we recommend the MyOwnBible app. However, Script.re puts Scripture front and center and focuses on deep study tools, giving you interlinear word-level tools with the original languages and details always one click away.
Original Language Spine
The architecture of Script.re is that the entire app is built around the Hebrew and Greek source texts of the Bible. Translations and resources in the app are aligned to the original languages word-by-word in a way that is extendable to languages where lexicons and interlinear tools have never yet existed.
Adding a new language is a process of translating the user interface and aligning a translation to the Hebrew and Greek, at which point all the existing and future features of the app work out of the box.
Commitment to the Textus Receptus
Very few Bible apps use the Textus Receptus as the underlying text for word-level tools in the New Testament. We believe that the Word of God will never change. This allows us to build the everything around fixed Textus Receptus and Ben Chayyim texts, and map every translation language and resource directly to the Hebrew and Greek spine.
This guarantees that the Script.re app will always rely on these specific texts of Scripture and provides peace of mind for the student that the underlying Hebrew and Greek is reliable.
Categories of reference sources
At this beta stage of development, only a handful of resources are made available as a proof of concept. Each category will receive focused development efforts in the near future. The categories we intend to build are:
- Commentaries
- History
- Classics
- Bible Dictionary and Encyclopedia
- Church Fathers
- Creeds and Councils
We are actively looking for resources in other languages. If you know of a resource we should include, please share that with us using the Share an Idea button.
Canon
We hold the sixty-six books of the Protestant canon as the completed Word of God. There are many situations that require the study of texts outside of this, whether to understand what another tradition teaches, or to examine a church father's reference in context, or simply the study of church history.
To support this, Script.re provides multiple canons. A canon in the app is a list of books regarded as Scripture by a specific tradition.
Selecting a canon filters the book list, navigation, and search results to that tradition's scope. You can switch between canons at any time. If your selected translation or edition does not have content for all of the books of a particular canon, the option to navigate to those books may be disabled.
Languages, Translations and Editions
Each translation of the Bible can have more than one edition. Controls have been provided to select a language of translation, a specific translation, and then an edition within that. Each language has a default edition that most closely aligns in a word for word formal equivalence methodology to the underlying Hebrew and Greek text.
The interface has been built for multi-linugual support and is currently available in English, Spanish, and Latvian with some other languages in the works. Switching languages in the interface changes the default translation as well.
